Nice to see Microsoft admit a problem, a bloat problem

This article http://www.informationweek.com/news/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=202404710 details how M$ is working to streamline their next OS and make it lighter and more (hardware friendly) It has been obvious for a long time that Microsoft has been in bed with companies like Intel to make the OS bloated and force consumers to buy higher end hardware. Linux has always made a streamlined OS and I feel that Microsoft is feeling the pressure of Ubuntu as you can install it on windows 98 era hardware and have a very usable desktop. I have been playing with vista for a couple months now and everytime I boot my pc into it, I feel like my pc performance is cut in half! I reboot into Ubuntu or XP and my machine feels like it should. Even disabling the Aero crap still leaved the OS feeling bloated. I can run Ubuntu with compiz-fusion on a laptop with a 64mb ati radeon 9000 and out perform what vista’s aero can do on my 512 mb nvidia geforce 8400 gs . I will commend M$ if they can actually pull off a lighter OS in their next release. In the mean time, I will do my gaming in Xp.

I also went ahead and setup a mail server, backend network, security measures, and bought a new domain and edited reverse dns records. Coming soon www.LinuxHelpResource.com
I am about to fall on my face as I have been up since 6pm yesterday and it is 12:25 pm CST. Ill have some more interesting posts tonight……
Well, I was basically doing some checking on the server and found that some links on my qmail toaster guide were outdated and messed up. I have revised the links so my qmail toaster install guide for 32 and 64 bit CentOS 5 will work properly and be more helpful. Check it out here http://www.larmeir.com/2007/12/how-do-i-install-qmail-toaster-on.html

To elaborate on my maintenance on my server & vm nodes
0 Comments | Posted by dlarmeir in Past Blogs
I host my server with a provider that includes both a front end and backend network. I will be adding a virtual backend network for my Virtual nodes that will make them be able to swap files via nfs and samba, utilize databases etc. I am currently running 4 nodes on my physical server at this time. A Centos 5.1 machine, Debian 4.0 Etch, Windows 2008 rc1, and Freebsd 6.2. With the exception of my debian etch vm which is the production server I use to host this blog, I do alot of testing amongst these different operating systems as I work as a customer system administrator and I have to have broad knowledge of all OS’. I have plans to even deploy a Sun Solaris virtual machine in the future. For right now though, I have some fine tuning to do to make sure my server is performing 100%. and that my blog is always up for people to get helpful information along with the useless content I post hehe. Ok it is bedtime, I will have some more interesting updates tonight.

Server will be down for maintanence tomorrow night..

I am going to be bringing the server offline for maintenance late Sunday/early Monday for some OS maintanence. Those who host images on the server or who utilize resources will be down for a brief period while I do some administrative tuning on the Host machine. Virtual Nodes will be down for around 30 minutes or so if there isn’t any issues. – Dustin
Oh yeah, and some good techie stuff will be posted soon. I have a little article on apf coming soon.

If I give you a pfennig, you will be one pfennig richer and I’ll be one pfennig poorer. But if I give you an idea, you will have a new idea, but I shall still have it, too.
